In my humble opinion, Lata Mangeshkar has sung some of her most exquisite songs not in Hindi, but in Marathi. However, his songs usually feature very complex metres and demanding vocals, which meant that only the most talented of singers were able to do justice to his compositions. ![]() He was selective in the projects that he took up, and hence his body of work may be smaller than that of other top composers. He started off composing for the Marathi film Akash Ganga in 1955 and then went on to compose for many other Marathi films. Most people who have lived in Maharashtra would have heard the lovely folkish Marathi song, Mi Dolkar sung by Lata Mangeshkar, surprisingly along with Hemant Kumar!
